Let's bounce, get out of here Spare seat, jump in my car Heads up, watch the sun rise That look, look in your eyes West Coast blues in a bottle Summer has come to an end East Coast think they're winning the battle Grow up the rivalry's dead Get angry at my friends when they're leaving Get angry at the place that they're going Like being on my own and I know it And I never felt so good, guess it's showing I get angry at my friends just for asking I got the West Coast Blues but I love it Get angry at my friends just for asking I got the West Coast Blues but I love it Take one look at the sky You know winter is here You know the bus is a drag You know the parking is expensive West Coast Love is a monster Laying traps in the concrete If you think that you're on it Watch out you've already got it If you think that you've won it Watch out you've already caught it If you think you've won it Turns out you've already caught it I get angry at my friends when they're leaving I get angry at the place that they're going to Like being on my own and I know it And I never felt so good, guess it's showing I get angry at my friends just for asking I caught the West Coast Blues but I love it Get angry at my friends just for asking I got the West Coast Blues but I love it but I love it but I love it

Make amends with the sun Climb onto your roof, outstretch your arms Like a worshipper in a position of praise Shake hands with it's rays The sun forgave and so too must you Make amends with the sun Forgive it for it's casual hours and sleeping in so late Raise your chin, part your lips Drink it in The East is much greyer You're stuck with bad weather Heavy eyelids keep closing Open them up I still don't know better A Baby West Coaster I still don't know better I love like an animal I still don't know better But failing gets easier I still don't know better I still don't know better The East is much greyer You're stuck with bad weather Heavy eyelids keep closing Daylight saving isn't working Sleepy boys need rest and loving Sleepy boys just need a light to shine I still don't know better I still don't know better

On winter mornings I am cold blooded Sit in the sun let it smooth out the shivers and shudders Birds and buzzing and mowing Something stowed away that we'll take out to lunch today Wonder if the waiter will notice our pauses, Think we're on a first date On lonely mornings I am forgetful Hold open my mouth wishing to be filled like an empty vessel Resembling a statue who knows nothing of her maker I hardly notice the waiter And as we sit down for a coffee it is folly That keeps me empty

about

Giving the people what they want, Statue pays homage to the womb that birthed them; Perth, baby. West Coast Blues is both the celebration champagne and the consolation prize for being the biggest celebrity in the most isolated city on the planet. Anthemic riffs and melancholy musings are all part and parcel in this paradoxical 'who gives a fuck', dancing between prosperity and decline, zenith and nadir, flood and drought, East and West.

In the new dawn of the year of 2023, a halo of light emanated from her silhouette, and swirling in the smoke around her appeared these letters as if etched into stone:

THE GREAT STATUE ARRIVES BEARING GIFTS OF THEIR OWN MAKING. THEIR FIRST APPEARANCE IN THE DIGITAL REALM WILL BE CELEBRATED ACROSS THE SUMMER MONTHS OF THE YEAR TWENTY-TWENTY-THREE (2023) PUNCTUATED BY THE RELEASE OF FOUR (4) EXTENDED PLAYS (EPs) ON LOCAL LABEL ROCKTON RECORDS. EACH OFFERING SHALL BE PRESENTED ONE WEEK APART, COMMENCING JANUARY 10 AND CONCLUDING JANUARY 31. ACCOMPANYING THE TOTAL OF NINETEEN (19) HOT NEW TRACKS WILL BE ONE (1) MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCED IN COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL FAIRY-GIRL BADDIES EMMA DAISY AND LYNDON BLUE. AS THE FINAL GIFT, THE STATUE HERSELF WILL APPEAR AT PIG MELON FOR AN EVENING OF IMPASSIONED MOTION AND DRAMATIC YET BUDGET LIGHTING ON FRIDAY FEBRUARY 3.

The second of four EPs in their outrageous debut offering, West Coast Blues is more conventionally ‘song’ structured than the first EP, drawing directly from the idioms of vaporwave and alternative 80s pop. Coupled with the straight-ahead lyrical musings on love, loneliness, lunch dates with exes and the morning sun, West Coast Blues cleverly frames that which is ordinary as worthy of exaltation through song — masked, of course, beneath a thick layer of painfully self-obsessed melancholia. “If you think that you’re on it, watch out! You’ve already caught it!”

WEST COAST BLUES are characterised by:
▪️ a lethargic weight on the heart
▪️ shallow pockets (rightfully so)
▪️ always seeing the sun set over the ocean
▪️ never seeing the sun rise over the ocean
▪️ an adolescent romanticism of sadness
▪️ being in love

West Coast Blues are a serious affliction! If YOU or SOMEONE YOU KNOW is experiencing these symptoms, please Reach Out!

about

Great Statue WA, Australia

Based in Boorloo on unceded Whadjuk Noongar boodja, in so-called Perth, Australia.

The great statue usually appears as a well-slicked, androgynous Laurie-Anderson-wannabe, lit from beneath by a cheap disco light, holding a bush chook in one hand, mic in the other: some strange karaoke performance of the classics you've never heard. ... more
